Bears and Squirrels- Missing Addend

Solve the following story problems and be sure to write the number sentence to show how you got the answer.
1.  There were 15 fish in all.  Seven of the fish were blue and the rest were red.  How many fish were red?

2.  Sam ate 4 green eggs for breakfast.  He ate some more green eggs for lunch.  By the end of the day he had eaten 10 green eggs.  How many eggs did he eat for lunch?

Once you've posted your answers, practice some more missing addend problems at this site:

Owls- Describe that Polygon!

This picture contains 24 polygons.  You need to pick 10 to describe.  When describing each one, you can tell its name, what type of angles it has, whether it is regular or irregular, what you know about its sides and vertices, and anything else you'd like to say about the shape.  Make sure you are clear in your descriptions and if you don't get to all 10 shapes the first day, go ahead and post what you have and make a new comment to finish later in the week.

Math to Love

This week I'd like you to come up with some of your own math story problems.  They should all have something to do with Valentine's Day.  You can choose any operation you'd like for your problem, just make sure to include a question.

Here's mine to give you an idea:
I put 8 heart shaped pepperonis and 6 heart shaped peppers on my Valentine pizza.  How many toppings does my pizza have in all?

Convince Me!

My birthday is this week!  Yahoo!  The only problem is I can't decide how to celebrate.  Use your opinion writing skills to convince me of the best way to celebrate my birthday.  Tell me what I should do and give me some strong supporting reasons why.

P.S.  Thanks for your help! :)

Bears and Squirrels- What to Measure?

If you could measure anything in the world what would it be and why?  Also, what units would you use to measure your choice....bears, inches, centimeters, paperclips, something different?

Owls- Add vs. Subtract

We've been working on adding and subtracting and different strategies for both.  How are addition and subtraction the same and how are they different?  What steps are the same in solving the problems and what steps are different?
